Covers the Works of Mencius and the Great Learning from The Four Books, with emphasis on the meanings that can be assigned to the verses. This course is designed to enable students to interpret and understand Confucianism, the central philosophy of classical Chinese culture. It will also provide students with insight into Korean traditional culture.

This curriculum includes Confucian Analects, The Doctrine of The Mean from The Four Book. Other than that, it is the same as Intensive Readings of Mencius I.

Covers the basics of Chinese writing, such as grammar, phonemes, letters, as well as form and themes in classical Chinese poetry. The major classic works in classical Chinese will be examined. The course will also include references for students to conduct their own research.

In this course, students are expected to learn how to write the various shapes of Chinese characters, sometimes considered art, through studying theories and hands-on experience.

Students will learn how to interpret classical Chinese by understanding YUKSEO, the basic rules for writing Chinese characters from KAPGOLMUN to HAESEO. Also, the development of the letters, and other topics such as homonymy will be covered. Students will also be able to understand Chinese letters which originally came into being in the Korean peninsula.

Students are expected to read and understand some of the major texts in classical Chinese which will provide them with a deeper understanding of the history of Korean novels.

Covers an interpretation of Shi-ji, the most prominent book on Chinese history, which demonstrates conventional ways of narrating historical events in Korean history.

Through indepth readings from Samguk-Yusa, basic texts for understanding Korean origin myths, history, literature, folklore and religions, students are expected to understand the Korean way of life and thinking as well as the origins of Korean culture.

Studies various cultural heritages in Korea and understands the history in relation with classical Chinese literature.

All Classes of Philosophers made variety attempts in an ideology. And their literary works is the cornerstone of our East Asia ideology. Students will read a number of their literary works and discuss the ideological meaning, with the exception of Confucianism and Taoism,

Covers Korean poems written by eminent Korean poets using different standards. Also, analysis, appreciation, and interpretation of poems in classical Chinese, as well as the history of Korean poetry.

This class aims at cultivating basic knowledges required to study Classical Chinese literature.

Covers the main characteristics and meanings of major authors, texts, and philosophies in Korean literature written in Chinese letters. Historical development theory will be covered which notes the period when Chinese letters and writing were first adapted up to Koryo and Joseon, to the period when present literature replaced it. The goal of this course is recognition of the individuality of the Korean classics in Chinese, compared to Chinese classics.

Students will read Chinese critiques that have influenced the history of East Asian literature to acquire a basic understanding of the core concepts and traditions of classical Chinese literary critique

Students will grasp the characteristics of Korean prose in classical Chinese by reading and analyzing works (except for novels and literary critiques).
